Welcome To The Religion Network!
I'm Lisa Bowman, editor of The Religion Network, a multi-faith Web site. This site provides inspirational quotes through an
exploration of a new spiritual theme every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Religion network is offered with the
conviction that inspiration can be found in all spiritual faiths, and furthermore, that finding the commonalities
among the world's religions is more healing than pointing up their differences.
Religion as an institution is a precious gift, blessing individuals and uplifting communities. However you choose to
worship, I hope this site enhances your journey. If you'd like to know my story, click on biography.

Dear Readers,
It's easy to see inspiration when it's right there in paint on a canvas. It's easy to hear inspiration
when it's caressing our ears with beautiful music. And it's pretty easy to feel inspiration when
our hearts leap in tempo with heavenly stirrings. If we accept that Godly inspiration flows un-
interrupted from the Magnificent One, we do well to stay light on our feet to dance in His arms
and follow His lead. Our feet become leaden if we say, "Well, yesterday, I was guided this way,
so I'll just keep going in that direction." Maybe yes, maybe no. His lead is gentle, the changes
sometimes subtle. He'll keep correcting our direction with fresh inspiration if we allow, allow.
An open heart. A willing heart. A joyful heart.
This heart throbs, inspired.

Love is the inspiration for forever,
For the heart to be whole,
For the ear to always hear those words,
For the soul to have another,
For the mouth to speak the truth.
Love is the inspiration for the heart to seek God,
For the ear to hear his word,
For the soul to reach for him,
For the mouth to speak his truth,
For the eyes to always look upon him first,
For God is the inspiration for Love.
Final stanzas of the poem:
"Love is the Inspiration"

_________
By inspiration I mean all the affection, attraction, inward reproaches
and regrets, perceptions and illuminations with which God moves,
working in our hearts through His fatherly care, in order to awaken,
to kindle, lead, and draw us to heavenly love and holy desires.
St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622)

Each moment imposes a virtuous obligation on us which committed souls
obey. For God inspires them with a desire to learn one moment what, in
the next will uphold them in the practice of virtue...In all that these souls
do, they are aware only of an urge to write, read, question or observe this.
All they can say is: "I have an urge to write, read, question or observe this.
I obey this urge and God, who inspires it, supplies me with a store of know-
ledge which subsequently I am able to use to the advantage of myself and
others." This is why they must always remain simple, pliant and respon-
sive to the slightest prompting from these almost imperceptible impulses.
God, who possesses them, may make use of them in any way for his glory.
Jean-Pierre de Caussade (1675-1751)
French Jesuit priest
From "The Sacrament of the Present Moment"
Translated by Kitty Muggeridge
HarperSanFrancisco, 1996
_________
For my part I know nothing with any certainty,
but the sight of the stars makes me dream.
Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890)
Post-Impressionistic Dutch painter
__________
Inspiration presupposes revelation. Inspiration
may be called the guardian of revelation.
Vincent McNabb (1868-1943)
Irish scholar and priest
From "Frontiers of Faith and Reason"
