Welcome To The Religion Network!
I'm Lisa Bowman, editor of The Religion Network, a multi-faith Web site. This site provides inspirational quotes through an
exploration of a new spiritual theme every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Religion network is offered with the
conviction that inspiration can be found in all spiritual faiths, and furthermore, that finding the commonalities
among the world's religions is more healing than pointing up their differences.
Religion as an institution is a precious gift, blessing individuals and uplifting communities. However you choose to
worship, I hope this site enhances your journey. If you'd like to know my story, click on biography.

Dear Readers,
God was talking about you the other day. He turned to the angel on his left and said, "He/she
is the most delightful child of mine!" It's true - God looks at us with delighted, loving eyes.
I got to hear the Dalai Lama speak a few years ago in Pasadena. Part of the time he spoke with
gravity, but most of the time his eyes sparkled and he spoke with childlike delight about, well,
pretty much everything. Despite the burdens on his shoulders and the pain of living in exile for
decades, he finds everything and everybody delightful.
I picture him when I think about God's
delight in us. Then I quintuple that delight and I still can't come close to God's delight in us.
We delight God when we turn to him. We delight him when we treat each other with love. We
delight him when we let go of the burdens we insist on carrying around. We delight him when
we sing, we dance, we paint; when we admire a painting, a singer or a dancer. We delight him
when we laugh. I like to think I make him laugh when I do something blonde. Lord knows, it
amuses my family. It's what I like to think, anyway.
The best part is that God lets us know that he feels delight by giving us the ability to experience
delight.
Everywhere we look in nature, there is infinite variety to delight us - truly something for
everyone. If roses don't do it for you, maybe orchids do. If you're not a dog person, maybe you
delight in cats, although the cat probably couldn't care less...
The next time you experience a bubble of delight,
understand that it is a divine moment!

G-d has many delights:
The delight that comes from a pure and simple act of love.
Greater than that, the delight that comes
from an act of beauty sparkling in the darkness.
Greater than that, the delight when a child
who has run away returns with all her heart.
Delight is that from which all life comes.

They confronted me in the day of my calamity,

Reflections
There is so much beauty in life,
Beauty in the human soul,
Beauty in the heart and in the mind
Of the good man and woman.
There is beauty in nature,
Beauty in the sky and in the clouds,
In the mountains and in the sea.
There is beauty in the creative work of man,
Beauty in true friendship.
And immeasurable beauty in love.
All God's blessings
To delight us in this world.
Emmy Nielsen Reyes de Gaspar
_______
The Lord can clear the darkest skies
Can give us day for night.
Make drops of sacred sorrow rise
To rivers of delight.
Isaac Watts (1674-1748)
Popular and prolific English hymn writer

delight in God, not in itself.
